12 Steps On How To Make Pasta

Here are simple steps you can follow to make a plain pasta:

Step# 1. Prepare the flour

On a clean, vast, flat workspace, put your chosen flour and make a well-like structure in the middle using your hands. Read more here what flour is used to make pasta.

Step# 2. Mixing

Mix the eggs, organic olive oil, egg yolks, and salt and pour the whole mixture into the well of flour.

Use a fork to mix the flour and the liquid. Slowly fork the flour edges into the middle.

Step# 3. Make the dough

Once it is thoroughly mixed, start to bring the dough in your hands. The outcome of the dough should be kneadable but not too sticky.

If the dough is too sticky, add some flour or dust the surface and properly mix the dough in it.

If the dough is too dry and stiff, crack another egg with a tablespoon of water and gradually put it in the dough.

Continue to mix the dough until it is in its right state.

Step# 4. It’s time for kneading!

Knead the dough for about 5 to 10 minutes or depends on your capacity.

Until the dough is smooth and you achieved enough elasticity and plasticity, it will spring back when you poked the dough down.

Step # 5. Wrap the dough

After the kneading process, get a plastic wrap and entirely wrap the dough.

Let it sit in room temperature for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or if you poked the dough, it would not spring back.

Step # 6. Cut the dough

If an hour has passed, unwrap the dough and cut it into pieces for more comfortable work.

Take one piece at a time and wrap back the other pieces for it won't dry out.

Step # 7. Shape the dough

Dust your flat workspace with flour and begin to roll the dough to the surface.

Dough it into a long piece. Next is to fold the top and the bottom like a letter.

Rotate or flip the dough at about 90 degrees angle and roll the piece back into its long shape.

Doing this helps the dough form a much even rectangular shape, making the dough easier to knead and work with.

Step # 8. Roll the dough

Continuously roll the dough using a rolling pin to flatten out until it is completely thin. Thin enough, so when you lift it, your hands maybe see through it.

Step # 9.  Flatten the dough and cut

After this, flatten the dough, fold both ends meet in the middle of the dough, and then fold it again.

By doing this folding step, will make it easier to cut. Cut the dough into a thin shape or whatever shape you desired.

Once you’re already done cutting, loosen the dough strips out to avoid sticking and drizzle some flour to it. After that, let it sit for about half an hour to dry it out slightly.

Or, if you don't want to cut it on your own, you can have a pasta maker cut it out for you.

Step #10. Boil the pasta

Prepare for a large pot of water. Make sure you put a tremendous amount of salt in it because it will be the pasta's primary taste.

After it boils, put the pasta and stir it eventually so it won't clump.

Fresh pasta cooks much faster than dried pasta, so cook it for about 2-5 minutes or 1-2 minutes, depends on your desired firmness. please read here what to do with leftover pasta.

Step # 11. Taste your pasta

Taste the pasta and once you are already satisfied, drain the noodle out of the pot, but you have to make sure you have saved at least 240 mL of the cooking water.

Step # 12. Mix the pasta with sauce

Mix the cooked pasta into your desired sauce, stir and make sure it is fully coated.

You can add the pasta water that you saved earlier if needed to add a little bit of juiciness to the pasta sauce.
